Dr. Christoph Stein 2022
Christoph Stein trained in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine and Neuropharmacology at Ludwig‑Maximilians‑Universität München (LMU Munich), the State University of New York and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and worked at the Max‑Planck‑Institute for Psychiatry in Martinsried, Germany. He served as Full Professor and Research Associate at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, and later became Chair of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin – Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (1997). His research focuses include the molecular mechanisms and treatment of pain; opioid pharmacology; signaling, transport and recycling of opioid receptors in sensory neurons; gene expression and processing of opioid peptides in immune cells; and clinical studies on mechanisms and treatment of postoperative, arthritic and neuropathic pain.
